The Simpsons go black.

The Simpsons have always been portrayed as yellow but now they change it and are given brown skin instead. They dress in clothes bearing traditional African designs, wear flip flops and… look at that Marge’s black Afro hairstyle! And, surprisingly, Hommer changes his adored Duff beer and drinks an exotic fruity juice instead… unbelievable!

The Simpsons are African!!!!

They appear like a typical Angolan family, but they are only turned in black in a promotional video aired by Africa’s digital satellite TV service DSTV in Angola.

This ad has raised eyebrowns among the most extreme The Simpson’s fans but the creative director of Executive Center, Antonio Pascoa, said:

“Our goal was to adapt the satirical parody of the typical middle-class American family to Angola.

“If people don’t like it than I guess they don’t have a sense of humor big enough to enjoy the Simpsons.”

Steak with Mustard Cream.

6 fillet steaks, 1 clove garlic, salt, freshly ground black pepper, 100 g (4 oz) butter, 175 g (6 oz) button mushrooms, 6 tbsp dry white wine, 3 tbsp brandy, 2 tbsp mustard, 150 ml (1/4 pt) double cream, parsley sprigs to garnish.

1 Peel the garlic glove and cut it in half. Rub the steaks on both sides with the garlic and season them with salt and pepper.

2 Heat 75 g (3 oz) of the butter in a large, heavy frying-pan and when it is frothy, sear the steaks over a high, first one side and then the other. Lower the heat and finish cooking the steaks turning them once, for 8-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the meat and the degree of cooking you prefer. Transfer the steaks to a heated dish, cover them with foil and keep them warm.

3 Add 25 g (1 oz) butter to the pan and heat it. Lightly fry the trimmed whole mushrooms for 1-2 minutes, shaking the pan so they are well coated with the butter. Remove them with a draining spoon and keep them warm with the steaks.

4 Pour the white wine into the pan and stir well with a wooden spoon to take up the juices. Add the brandy and the mustard, stir well, then add the cream. Season with salt and pepper. Heat without allowing the sauce to boil.

5 Arrange the steaks on a heated serving dish, with the mushrooms on top. Pour off any juices into the cream sauce, stir and pour the sauce over the steak. Garnish with parsley sprigs.

I’m a great fan of The Simpsons cartoons! (still not a freaky but expecting to). Last summer I watched the film on the big screen (finally they made the screen version) and loved it. We went to the cinema with little Daniel (just 2 years old ) thinking that either my husband or me would lose our money in the ticket and had to go out with him. But surprisingly he sat during the whole film as he too likes very much the yellow inhabitants of Springfield. He never has enough of them and if I were to be a really good mother I shouldn’t let my baby watch that kind of cartoons, I don’t think they’re for kids that age. But sometimes is the only way to make him sit down and have his dinner!

To my surprise those were the looks of the Simpsons’ family in 1989 (december 17) when the series started:

“The longest-running American sitcom”.

Nowadays they look like this (which I pretty much prefer):

In clockwise direction from top left: Homer, Marge, Maggie, Santa’s Little Helper, Bart, Snowball II & Lisa.

Both Matt Groening’s father & son are named Homer; his mother’s Marge; his two little sisters Lisa and Maggie. No more coincidences! Bart is an anagram for “brat”, that means “a very troublesome child” and “Simpson” means “son of a simple”.

The first episode broadcasted in Spain was at the beginning of the year 1991.

I realize this post means to be an extensive one so I will continue soon…

Fishing boat with 229 African migrants on board arrived yesterday to Los Cristianos Tenerife harbor, according to Maritime Rescue Team. They spotted the large group 55 miles off the coast of Gran Canaria.

The whole passengers, all with sub-Saharan origins, arrived in good health conditions although several people were suffering hypothermia and had to be carried to the Health Center. Twenty-five under aged and no women were on board, inform the same reliable sources.

The fishing boat was seen the day before yesterday at evening from an Aerial Rescue Service (SAR) plane and was tugged by Maritime Recue boat, María Zambrano.

Reading this kind of news I always think the same: WHO is really taking benefit from this people? They think – because someone urge them to – our country is a paradise, and in a way it is for them, who are starving in their native land. So wretched are they that they embark on a venture, actually pay for it, and never know if they’ll survive. Hundreds of them drown while trying to reach our coasts.

Paul Newman, 1925-2008.

Hollywood is mourning. Paul Newman passed away peacefully on September 27, 2008 in his home in Connecticut surrounded by his family, wife Joanne Woodward and daughters, after a long illness bravely born. Just eighteen months ago actor Paul Newman was diagnosed with lung cancer.

He was 83 and held a long fifty years screen career besides one of Hollywood’s longest-lasting unions – Paul and Joanne celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in February. Was nominated for nine acting Academy Awards but did the most important actions of his life behind the cameras.

As a result of the death of his only son Scott due to a drug-and-alcohol overdose in 1978 Paul Newman started the Scott Newman Center.

With his “Newman’s Own Olive Oil & Vinegar” bussiness (set up in 1982), all proceeds went toward charitable organizations.

In 1988 Newman started the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp – named after the band of outlaws in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid – a getaway (holiday) for children with cancer and blood-related diseases.

May he rest in peace.
